Is that a banana in your pocket...?
Posted By FuzzyGalore 4/14/2008

With my first moto trip of the year on the horizon, when I get some free moments away from the daily goings-on of my real life, I read motorcycle forums, bike mags, look at maps and chit-chat with my friends about bikes with a renewed vigor that only the first upcoming trip of the season can bring. Today, I was taking a look at the Aerostich website at some fancy-schmancy waterproof leather jacket a friend is contemplating. Aerostich always has some great stuff in their catalog - lots of things you didn't know you really needed until you saw them splashed across their pages next to people wearing bug-spattered, yellow hi-viz suits. Today was no exception. As I clicked through their pages looking at waterproof bags, tools and gear I came across something dementedly perfect.

Behold... The Banana Guard.
Even as I read the title and looked at the little thumbnail image, I must confess I had no idea what it was. I thought it must be some cute or clever name that really had nothing to do with its actual purpose. Read on, brothers and sisters. It is divine.

Motorcyclists are a weird and wonderful bunch. Can i get an Amen?

Helmety Helmet - Schuberth S1
Posted By CrudMop 9:53:43 PM

A couple of weeks ago, Fuzz started a conversation on a forum about helmets, who bought what, what they thought of it, etc.  I replied about the Arai Corsair I picked up last spring to replace a 3 year old Corsair, and had mentioned how I tried on a Schuberth S1 during the summer and how comfortable it was.

After that conversation, i started searching aruond for prices, etc, simply to see what they were going for and how cheap I could find one for - normally they go in the low $700's, but I found one at a small shop who, after some haggling, agreed to the bargain price of $295 with free shipping.  I couldnt' resist (and got a buddy to get another one along with me, to replace his current S1).

Man this story is getting long.

Anyway, the helmet is AWESOME.  Super comfy, very plush inside, the lower skirt seals out most of the noise, and NOTHING beats the flip down/up sunshade (I've always had a problem finding sunglasses that fit inside the helmet). It's a bit heavier than others, but nothing so bad that I wouldn't want it.  It's a little tight to get into, as the bottom of the helmet sticks out more than usual and closes the open area where wind and noise usually flow up into the bottom.  it's also got a quick-release buckle for the chin strap which makes getting on and off with gloves a snap.  My only complaint is that the strap adjustment is relatively short, and I'd probably like an extra half inch of play to loosen the strap just a little.

Boy, what a boring review.  Alas, a great helmet none-the-less.  Thoroughly recommended.

Cabin Fever - Part 468
Posted By FuzzyGalore 11:24:46 PM

First its the folks who put the "Eating Animals" stickers on STOP signs, now this...

For crying out loud. Now i've got vegetables working against me too? I mean, seriously. How are you supposed to eat a potato that is smiling at you? Look at it. LOOK AT IT! Sonofa... It sat there just peering back at me with those beady, little eyes, that jaunty smirk and its endearingly lumpy head...

I need a vacation. STAT.
